PHOENIX -- There are home runs, and then there are home runs like the one Edwin Encarnacion hit at Chase Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Encarnacion absolutely crushed a two-run shot to left field during the eighth inning of the Blue Jays' 10-4 victory over the D-backs. According to Statcast™, the ball landed a projected 471 feet away and left his bat at 112 mph.
That was the longest home run hit by a Blue Jay this season, and the fourth longest hit by anyone in the Major Leagues in 2016. It also marked Encarnacion's longest homer in the Statcast™ era (2015-present), and the second hardest-hit ball he has put in play this year.
"That was the loudest ball I've ever witnessed live in a stadium by far," Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman said. "I was under when I heard and I ran out and saw where it landed. That was pretty special. Eddie is the man. Just looking forward to keeping it going."
The two-run shot was Encarnacion's 223rd in a Blue Jays uniform, which moved him into a tie with Vernon Wells for third place on the club's all-time list. The fact that this one came at Chase Field probably shouldn't come as a surprise, because it seems like he enjoys hitting here more than anywhere else.
Encarnacion is batting .448 (13-for-29) with nine home runs and 17 RBIs in eight games at Chase Field since joining Toronto in 2009. He's homered in three of his last four games at this ballpark, and back in '10, he hit three balls over the fence in one game.
The latest was an absolute no-doubter. Encarnacion and everyone else in attendance knew it was gone right off the bat. He unloaded on a 2-1 fastball from reliever Daniel Hudson, and the rest is history.
"I haven't seen many like that. He rakes at this place," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said of the pending free agent. "He feels good. I don't know if it's the backdrop or what it is, but he is having a [heck] of a year. Great timing, great timing for Eddie."
