SEATTLE -- Shortstop Jean Segura will go out on a Minor League rehab this weekend, and he will likely rejoin the Mariners on Sunday in Oakland or on Tuesday in Detroit during their upcoming road trip.
Segura is eligible to come off the 10-day disabled list on Friday, but manager Scott Servais said the club would like to see him test his injured right hamstring in two or three games, most likely with Double-A Arkansas.
Segura has been sidelined since Seattle's home opener on April 10 when the hamstring tightened up while he was running to first base.
The Mariners open a four-game set in Oakland on Thursday, and the initial thought was to have Segura play a few games with Class A Advanced Modesto. But the Nuts are home against Stockton on Thursday and then travel to Visalia, while Arkansas will be at home against Springfield for four straight games from Thursday through Sunday.
"Modesto is only home for a certain amount of time, so he could end up going to Arkansas just to stay in one spot and play instead of getting on a bus and traveling around the great state of California," Servais said.
Segura will likely play as the designated hitter in his first game, then move to shortstop on his second rehab start and see how the leg feels.
"We need to make sure he can get up close to 100 percent," Servais said. "We're looking forward to having him back out there. Obviously, when he gets in the lineup, it lengthens us even more. We're anxious to get him back."
Segura was the Mariners' biggest offseason acquisition, and he put up a .313/.353/.406 slash line with a home run, three RBIs and three stolen bases in Seattle's first eight games while batting leadoff.

Taylor Motter has filled in for Segura at shortstop and has performed well, hitting .321 with three homers and six RBIs in the first eight games of the homestand.
Servais says once Segura returns, Motter will continue to get playing time by filling in at various positions. He played every position except catcher during his Minor League career.
