SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Mission incomplete.
That's the underlying theme manager Jeff Banister is conveying to his team as the Rangers get ready for their first full-squad workout of Spring Training on Tuesday. A team meeting is set before the workout.

"We'll celebrate all of the good things we did well last year," Banister said. "A lot of feel good about that. To sit down and say, this is where we fell short … they know it."
The Rangers won their second straight division title with a 95-67 record, then were swept by the Blue Jays in the first round.

"We had some goals and reached a number of them," Banister said. "Overall, the mission is incomplete and has been for [45] years. The mission is to win the World Series, and it is incomplete."
The Rangers' drought goes back to their first season in 1961 as the Washington Senators. The Rangers, who moved to Texas in 1972, are the oldest franchise in baseball to have never won the World Series, and they haven't been back since consecutive trips in 2010-11.
"Our mission is what it is every year," third baseman Adrian Beltre said. "Do everything it takes to win the World Series. That's what we are all here for. It hasn't changed."

Mike Napoli, who played with the Rangers in 2011-12 and again at the end of 2015, knows what the expectations are with the Rangers.
"It's a great feeling," Napoli said. "It helped in my decision coming back here. I know what the clubhouse would be like and pretty much know everybody here. It's a fun team to be around and play for."
Napoli expects to win. He has been to the postseason eight times and the World Series three times in the past 10 years with four different organizations. In addition to competing in the World Series with the Rangers in 2011, he won a World Series with the Red Sox in 2013 and went there again with the Indians in 2016.
"Anywhere I have been and won, it's about coming together as a team and playing together as team," Napoli said. "Eliminate the individual stuff. That's where you have success. You can have all the All-Stars you want, but if you don't play together, it's not going to work. It's all about coming together as a team."
The Rangers have undergone significant changes from last year, most notably losing first baseman Mitch Moreland, outfielders Carlos Beltran and Ian Desmond, and pitchers Colby Lewis and Derek Holland. But they have added Napoli, re-signed Carlos Gomez and Josh Hamilton, and brought in free-agent pitchers Andrew Cashner and Tyson Ross.
"Every year you have different personnel," Beltre said. "But we still have the pieces and the team to do it. We all believe we have the team to do it. Our job is to perform and get through the tough times. It will be a challenge, we are playing some good teams in the division, but, hopefully, we can pull through in the end."
