Hoffman makes professional debut for Dunedin
Blue Jays No. 3 prospect returns to action after undergoing Tommy John surgery
One year after undergoing Tommy John surgery, Blue Jays No. 3 prospect (No. 80 overall) Jeff Hoffman made his professional debut for Class A Advanced Dunedin.
The righty lasted six innings on Wednesday night, giving up four earned runs on eight hits in the Jays' 6-5 win over Tampa. Hoffman struck out three Yankees and walked none.
A product of East Carolina, Hoffman performed well in the Cape Cod League two summers ago before running into elbow trouble. In May 2014, he elected to have TJ surgery, but Toronto was still enamored with the 6-foot-4 prospect, and selected him No. 9 overall last June.
"We just felt the talent was too good to walk away from," Blue Jays director of amateur scouting Brian Parker said after the Draft. "This guy was going to top three, top four picks prior to his injury and we just felt like even with the Tommy John this was a good gamble for us."
