X-rays negative on Mathis' right hand

August 22nd, 2017

NEW YORK -- D-backs catcher Jeff Mathis left Monday night's 3-2 win over the Mets in the sixth inning after taking a foul tip off his right hand two innings earlier. The club announced he sustained a right hand contusion on the play, and manager Torey Lovullo said after the game that X-rays were negative.
Mathis was in pain after Mets first baseman hit a foul tip in the fourth inning, but after Lovullo and the club's athletic trainer came out to check on him, he took a couple of practice throws and was able to continue. Mathis also was hit by a pitch in the top of the fourth.
Chris Iannetta replaced Mathis before the D-backs took the field in the bottom of the sixth.
"We'll do some more tests on him [Tuesday]," Lovullo said.
