Jenrry Mejia activated from restricted list

FLUSHING, N.Y., July 7, 2015 - The New York Mets today announced that right-handed pitcher Jenrry Mejia has been activated off the Restricted List and added to the 25-man roster. Mejia was suspended for 80 games for violating MLB's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program on April 11. To make room for Mejia on the 40-man roster, the Mets have placed right-handed pitcher Buddy Carlyle on the 60-day Disabled List. To make room on the 25-man active roster for Mejia, the Mets have optioned right-handed pitcher Logan Verrett to Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League.

Mejia, 25, last pitched for Las Vegas on July 5 and blanked Albuquerque in a scoreless inning to earn the save. In four total relief appearances in Triple-A, Mejia was 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA to go along with six strikeouts (no walks). In six total minor league rehabilitation games, Mejia allowed only one run in 6.0 innings and struck out 10.

Last season, Mejia was 6-6 in 63 games (seven starts) for New York and converted 28 saves in 31 opportunities. For his major league career, Mejia is 8-14 with a 3.84 ERA.

In six relief appearances with the Mets this year, Verrett was 0-0 with one save and a 0.73 ERA.
