ARLINGTON -- A's right-hander Jesse Hahn is expected to come off the disabled list on Sunday for a road start against the White Sox, manager Bob Melvin suggested on Wednesday.
Hahn, on the DL since Aug. 5 with a minor shoulder strain, made a rehab start with Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday and worked four innings of one-run ball, with just two hits allowed. He struck out six and walked three, totaling 79 pitches while flashing "good velocity," Melvin said.
Upon Hahn's return, right-hander Zach Neal will move back to the bullpen, while Andrew Triggs, who impressed with 5 2/3 innings in Texas on Tuesday, will remain in the rotation.
Ahead of Hahn, right-hander Kendall Graveman and lefty Ross Detwiler will draw the first two starts of a three-game series in Chicago.
Back home, right-hander Sonny Gray will begin plyometric work this week, which will lead to a throwing program. The A's hold out hope that he can pitch again this season.
"He wouldn't even start playing catch if we didn't think there was a chance for that," Melvin said. "We're not going to rush it. We're going to make sure everything goes well along the way, but we have not ruled him out being able to pitch."
• Left-hander Felix Doubront, who underwent Tommy John surgery in April, is making significant strides in his rehab. He's in the early stages of a throwing program, doing sock throws.
• Catcher Josh Phegley (right knee) caught rehabbing pitcher Henderson Alvarez's flat-ground session on Tuesday and is nearing a rehab assignment.
