Jhoulys Chacin reinstated from DL, Eric Young Jr. placed on DL

Chacin will Start Tonight at New York Mets

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has reinstated right-handed pitcher Jhoulys Chacin from the 15-day disabled list (right shoulder inflammation). The Rockies have also placed outfielder Eric Young Jr. on the 15-day disabled list with a left intercostal muscle strain. Young’s placement on the disabled list is retroactive to August 20th. Chacin (#45) will start tonight’s game for Colorado against the New York Mets at Citi Field (5:10 p.m. MDT).

Chacin, 24, has gone 0-3 with a 7.30 ERA (24.2 ip, 20 er) in five starts with Colorado this season. He will be making his first Major League start since 5/1 vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers when he takes the mound tonight. The right-hander missed 95 games while on the disabled list. Chacin made five starts on his rehab assignment with High-A Modesto (one start), Double-A Tulsa (two starts) and Triple-A Colorado Springs (two starts). Overall is his five rehab starts, he went 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA (25.0 ip, 15 er). He went 1-1 with a 2.63 ERA (13.2 ip, 4 er) in his last two starts with Triple-A Colorado Springs. Chacin has pitched in the Major Leagues with the Rockies every year since 2009, and in his career owns a 20-29 record with a 3.78 ERA (367.0 ip, 154 er), 174 walks and 323 strikeouts in 73 games/58 starts.

Young, 27, was a member of the Rockies Opening Day roster and in 98 games has batted .316 (55-for-174) with 7 doubles, 2 triples, 4 home runs, 15 RBI, 36 runs and 14 stolen bases. Young has already set career-highs this season in games, runs, hits, doubles, home runs and RBI. In 256 career Major League games, all with Colorado, Young is a .266 (160-for-601) career hitter with 17 doubles, 6 triples, 5 home runs, 34 RBI, 103 runs and 62 stolen bases. This will be Young’s first trip to the DL since he finished the 2010 season on the 60-day DL with a stress fracture in his right tibia. 

The Rockies have 39 players on the 40-man roster.
