Paredes' sore wrist to be re-examined

Matusz given cortisone injection; Wieters continues to test elbow

March 22nd, 2016

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Jimmy Paredes felt some soreness in his left wrist on Tuesday while taking dry swings and he will be re-examined by hand specialist Dr. Brian Schofield.
Paredes will be placed on the disabled list to start the season, a stint beginning on March 25.
Left-handed reliever Brian Matusz's status for Opening Day is in jeopardy, as manager Buck Showalter said Matusz had a cortisone shot following his outing on Sunday.

"We decided to inject that to clear it up completely," Showalter said of a low back injury that has been hampering Matusz this spring. "It might push him back a day or two with his outing, but we're hoping that manages it."
Matusz felt the injury during his first spring outing.
Catcher Matt Wieters, slowed by a sore elbow, threw off flat ground on Tuesday up to 90 feet. It was his second throwing session since feeling the soreness.
