Votto a late scratch with sore shoulder

July 2nd, 2016

WASHINGTON -- The Reds scratched first baseman Joey Votto from Saturday's lineup because of a sore right shoulder about an hour before they played the Nationals and took a 9-4 win in 10 innings.
Votto was injured in the 13th inning of the Reds' 3-2 loss to Washington on Friday after he hustled for a double and made a hard headfirst slide into second base.
"We're going to go day to day," manager Bryan Price said. "It just wasn't good [today]. We'll see where he's at tomorrow and make that decision in the morning."
Left fielder Adam Duvall, who had been scheduled to get a day off, replaced Votto at first base and made an immediate impact, getting the Reds on the board with a two-run double in the first inning. He finished with two doubles and a walk in six plate appearances.

Votto is batting .255/.380/.458 with 14 home runs and 40 RBIs in 79 games this season. He's been one of Cincinnati's hotter hitters of late, going 6-for-11 in his last three games and batting .330/.467/.557 with five homers, seven doubles and 10 RBIs over his last 27 games since June 1.
