Murphy safe at first after Yankees challenge

MILWAUKEE -- The Yankees successfully challenged a call in the eighth inning against the Brewers on Sunday at Miller Park, resulting in an infield single for John Ryan Murphy.

Facing Will Smith with Milwaukee leading, 5-4, Murphy dribbled a ground ball to the right side of the infield that Milwaukee second baseman Rickie Weeks gloved, then shoveled to first baseman Lyle Overbay.

First-base umpire Marvin Hudson ruled Murphy out, but a video review of 53 seconds overturned Hudson's call and credited Murphy with a single. Murphy was erased when the next batter, pinch-hitter Brian Roberts, bounced into a double play. The Yankees ended up losing the game, 6-5.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi has made 10 challenges this season. Eight calls were overturned and two were confirmed. There have been 20 total instances of replay used in Yankees games this season.
