SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Though Giants photo archives weren't immediately accessible Thursday, it's safe to say that right-hander Johnny Cueto became the first player in franchise history to report to Spring Training with the tips of his dreadlocked hair dyed orange.
As it turned out, Cueto's choice of color didn't reflect team spirit.
"I already had it orange," Cueto said through interpreter Erwin Higueros, noting that he tinted his hair before agreeing to a six-year, $130 million contract with the Giants in mid-December.

Such colorful behavior, literally and figuratively, is typical of Cueto, who has been known to use social media to show off his collection of horses and celebrate his own birthday.

"What you see is what you get," Cueto said. "This is how I am in the clubhouse. If you see me sitting down, I'm relaxed. If somebody wants to joke with me, I'll joke with them. But when it's time to get to business, I'll get to business."
Giants manager Bruce Bochy expected entertaining behavior from Cueto. Bochy's offseason research on Cueto extended beyond the free-agent acquisition's skills on the mound.
"I talked to a lot of people about the intangibles that he brings, too," Bochy said. "He's a great teammate. He has a lot of fun playing; he has a lot of charisma. We're a team that's been known for being a little bit different -- we've been called misfits, cockroaches -- [but] guys fit in here. We think he's going to be a great fit."
