Gomes' double overturned, ruled two-run homer
BOSTON -- Jonny Gomes belted one just over the Green Monster in the bottom of the sixth inning on Tuesday night, but it was originally ruled a double because the ball bounced back into play.
But after a review that took just 34 seconds, the umpires reversed the call and Gomes was awarded with a two-run homer that helped the Red Sox reduce Toronto's lead to 7-4.
It was the fourth homer of the season for Gomes.
The play does not count as a challenge by the Red Sox. Instead, it was a boundary call, which has been reviewable by umpires since the 2008 season.
