Jose Abreu Named Co-American League Player of the Week

Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu has been named co-American League Player of the Week with Texas Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder for the period of September 14-20.

Abreu, 28, hit .458 (11-24) with two doubles, two home runs, nine RBI, a .552 on-base percentage and 1.343 OPS over six games to earn his third career weekly honor (also April 21-27 last season and July 27-August 2 this season). Abreu hit safely in all six games, recorded a RBI in four of the contests and has hit safely in 15 of his last 18 games overall.

Abreu is batting .299 (73-244) with 18 doubles and 15 home runs since the All-Star Break. He is tied for third in the American League in doubles, tied for fourth in RBI (49) and extra-base hits (33), ranks fifth in total bases (136) and tied for seventh in homers. Abreu is trying to join Albert Pujols (2001-02) as the only players in baseball history to register 30-plus home runs and 100-plus RBI in each of his first two seasons.

Abreu and outfielder Adam Eaton (also July 27-August 2) are the only White Sox to receive a weekly honor this season.
