Altuve honored as AL Player of the Week

July 14th, 2017

HOUSTON -- On Friday, Astros All-Star second baseman was named the American League Player of the Week for July 3-9. Altuve hit .625 with two doubles, two homers and 10 RBIs in five games during that span.
Altuve, who entered Friday having recorded three hits in a franchise-record five consecutive games, leads the Majors with a .347 batting average and is second in hits, with 116. This is the third time in his career he's been named AL Player of the Week, and he's the second Astros player this season to be so honored (, April).
Altuve, a five-time All-Star, is the ninth player in Major League history to record at least three hits in five consecutive games, and the first since George Brett in 1976. The only other player to have five hits in at least six consecutive games is Jimmy Johnson (1923).
