Jose Bautista named Honda Player of the Month

TORONTO BLUE JAYS right-fielder JOSE BAUTISTA has been named the HONDA PLAYER OF THE MONTH for May by the TORONTO CHAPTER of the BBWAA. Honda, the official vehicle of the Blue Jays, will make a donation to the charity of Jose’s choosing.

BAUTISTA, 31, earned the honour after driving in a team high 22 runs in in May and matching Edwin Encarnacion for the team lead in home runs with nine. Bautista captured all but one first place vote that went to RHP Brandon Morrow. The right-handed hitter batted .257 with a team high 20 runs scored along with four doubles and 13 walks.  The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native recorded RBI’s in 16 of the 28 games played in May.

Also receiving votes for the May award were RHP Brandon Morrow (4-2, 3.50 ERA, 2 ShO), RHP Casey Janssen (0-0, 5SV, 1.59 ERA) and hitters JP Arencibia (.278, 8HR, 19 RBI), Edwin Encarnacion (.234, 9HR, 21 RBI) and Kelly Johnson (.273, 5HR, 18 RBI).
