Bautista notches 1,000th hit of career in defeat

NEW YORK -- Jose Bautista recorded the 1,000th hit of his career with an RBI double during the eighth inning of Wednesday night's 7-3 loss to the Yankees.

Toronto's right fielder went 2-for-4 to reach the milestone, and 673 of those hits have come in a Blue Jays uniform. He previously spent time with the Pirates, Royals, Rays and Orioles before joining Toronto in 2008.

Bautista has reached base in 69 of his 73 games this season and has at least one hit in 55 of those contests. Since May 12, Bautista has eight doubles, six homers, 19 walks and 23 RBIs.

The 33-year-old entered play on Wednesday with the American League lead in on-base percentage (.431), was third in OPS (.967) and was tied for sixth in total bases (139).
