TORONTO -- Blue Jays manager John Gibbons updated the status of injured right fielder Jose Bautista prior to Toronto's Canada Day matinee against the Cleveland Indians on Friday.
Gibbons said Bautista will likely remain out of the Blue Jays' lineup until after the All-Star break as he recovers from turf toe.
"Last word I got, [Bautista is] still in a boot," Gibbons said. "He's feeling better, but he's going to be a while. We miss him. We'll see in a couple of weeks."
Bautista injured his left big toe against the Phillies on June 16, crashing into the right-field wall during the seventh inning, and he was placed on the 15-day DL the next day. The veteran outfielder saw a specialist in Charlotte, N.C., the following week, where he received the diagnosis.
The 35-year-old slugger will be a free agent at the end of the year, and he has put up an OPS of .815 while hitting 12 home runs and driving in 41 runs.
Ezequiel Carrera will continue to serve as Toronto's primary right fielder during Bautista's absence. Carrera has put together a career-best season to date, hitting .302 with three home runs and eight RBIs in 54 games entering play Friday.
Rotation set
Gibbons said that the Blue Jays will keep their rotation intact until the All-Star break. There was some thought that the team would call up Drew Hutchison from Triple-A Buffalo to make a spot start and ease the innings load on Toronto's young starters, but Gibbons prefers to keep the rotation in rhythm.
"We're probably going to run it through the break as is," Gibbons said. "We've talked about it, but we want to keep it the same right now."
Joint honor
Josh Donaldson and Edwin Encarnacion were named co-winners of the Blue Jays' Player of the Month award for June, voted on by the Toronto chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
Encarnacion put up a .308 average with 11 home runs and a Major League-leading 30 RBIs for the month. Toronto's designated hitter became the fourth Blue Jay all-time to post at least 30 RBIs in June, joining Bautista, Carlos Delgado and John Olerud.
Donaldson, the reigning American League Most Valuable Player, hit .368 for the month with 16 extra-base hits, including six home runs, and put up the second-highest OPS in the American League at 1.193.
