Jose Fernandez takes to the field a day early for charity
Marlins All-Star to shave superfan's head on July 1; proceeds from charity auction to benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation.

WHAT: Jose Fernandez will take part in shaving head of Marlins superfan Andres Salgado, who has spent 13-plus months growing his hair in honor of Fernandez's return from Tommy John surgery. The event will occur on the field at Marlins Park.

WHY: 2013 National League Rookie of the Year and All-Star Jose Fernandez will make his first start the following day, July 2 at 12:10 p.m., marking his first game since May 9, 2014 at San Diego. Thursday will be known as #JoseDay at Marlins Park and will feature matinee pricing and one-dollar Kayem beef franks, with all fans in attendance receiving a Jose Head giveaway. The Marlins Foundation created a charity auction allowing fans to bid on the opportunity to assist Jose Fernandez in shaving "The Jose Guy's" head and beard, a photo opportunity with Jose, four passes to batting practice and four Ricoh Diamond Club tickets. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida. Fans can place bids until June 30 at marlins.com/auctions.
