Lobaton's walk-offs have historic twist

BALTIMORE -- According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Jose Lobaton is the first catcher to hit a walk-off triple and a walk-off homer in the same season since Wally Schang did so for the Philadelphia Athletics in August 1917, in circumstances similar to Lobaton's.

Schang hit a walk-off triple on Aug. 6 against the White Sox, sat out on Aug. 7 and on Aug. 8 hit a walk-off homer against the St. Louis Browns.

Fast-forward 96 years and 10 days: Lobaton hit a walk-off triple on Aug. 16, sat out on Aug. 17 and hit a walk-off homer on Aug. 18.

In addition, according to Elias, Lobaton is only the fourth player since 2002 to record a walk-off triple and walk-off homer in the same season, joining teammate Ben Zobrist (2012), Detroit's Ramon Santiago (2011), and St. Louis' Jim Edmonds (2004).
