Donaldson leads Blue Jays in ASG ballot race

Bautista, Pillar also within striking distance

TORONTO -- Josh Donaldson is back on the field and hitting home runs into the 500-level at Rogers Centre. Now he's also the Blue Jays' leader in fan balloting for the upcoming All-Star Game presented by MasterCard in Miami.
Donaldson ranked fourth among American League third basemen as Major League Baseball released its first AL Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot update on Wednesday afternoon. The three-time All-Star received 221,350 votes, trailing Baltimore's Manny Machado (369,069), Minnesota's (363,607) and Cleveland's (351,814).

Outfielders and are the only other Toronto players who were among the ranked leaders in the first update. Bautista is 10th with 195,199 votes, and Pillar is 15th with 160,484. The Angels' leads all players with 776,937 votes, while the Yankees' is second in the outfield (730,438) and the Red Sox's is third (337,473).

First baseman and second baseman were two notable omissions from the list. Smoak entered play on Wednesday leading all AL first basemen in OPS. Travis' case was hurt by a slow start, but he has been one of the league's hottest hitters since the start of May. Entering Wednesday, he led all Major Leaguers with 18 doubles and had a 13-game hitting streak.
Fans may cast votes for starters at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- on computers, tablets and smartphones -- exclusively online using the 2017 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot until Thursday, June 29, at 11:59 p.m. ET. On smartphones and tablets, fans can also access the ballot via the MLB.com At Bat and MLB.com Ballpark mobile apps. Vote up to five times in any 24-hour period for a maximum of 35 ballots cast.
Following the announcement of the 2017 All-Star starters, reserves and pitchers, fans should return to MLB.com and cast their 2017 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Final Vote for the final player on each league's All-Star roster. Then on Tuesday, July 11, while watching the 2017 All-Star Game presented by MasterCard live on FOX, fans may visit MLB.com to submit their choices for the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet with the 2017 MLB All-Star Game MVP Vote.
