Hamilton has second left knee surgery

GM Daniels says outfielder is recovering well from latest procedure

Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton underwent a second surgery in late October on the troublesome left knee that had kept him out of action for a month late in the season.

Hamilton initially had surgery on the knee on Sept. 11 to clean up a torn meniscus. The need for the follow-up procedure was discussed by Texas general manager Jon Daniels at the General Managers Meetings in Boca Raton, Fla.

Hamilton returned from the original procedure in late September, but he experienced new discomfort after slamming into the wall making a catch against the Angels during the final series of the regular season.

Citing that the new procedure was needed only to clean up the knee, Daniels told reporters it "wasn't a major structural repair," and he mentioned having already received positive reports on Hamilton's recovery.

Hamilton had a very quiet postseason, going 3-for-18 in the Rangers' five-game American League Division Series loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
