Hamilton not ready to start rehab assignment

May 6th, 2016

TORONTO -- Josh Hamilton's path back to the Major Leagues has hit another snag, as the Rangers announced Thursday that the veteran outfielder will not start his rehab assignment when first eligible on Friday.
Hamilton aggravated his left knee Saturday while on a rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco and was pulled from the game. The 34-year-old also missed the duration of Spring Training because of his injured left knee.
Hamilton is working out in Arlington at the Texas Metroplex Institute for Sports Medicine, and he is not participating in baseball activities. The former No. 1 overall Draft pick had surgery in October and February, and he was limited to just 50 games with the Rangers last season. There is no timetable for Hamilton to resume baseball activities.
"He described it to us as it's more than the pain, it's kind of a weakness," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said on Monday. "He says it will buckle on him at times."
