Hamilton scratched vs. Twins with sore knee

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Rangers have scratched Josh Hamilton from Wednesday's lineup with soreness in his left knee. Hamilton has dealt with a sore knee for a few days but it was pronounced after taking batting practice before Wednesday's game.

The Rangers, who lost 11-1, planned to give Hamilton treatment on Wednesday night and see how the knee responded before deciding whether he's play for Thursday's afternoon game at 12:10 p.m. CT against the Twins.

Hamilton has had a variety of leg ailments since being acquired from the Angels on April 27. He was on the disabled list from June 1 to 29 with a strained left hamstring but had played in 21 of 23 games since the All-Star break before being scratched on Wednesday.

Ryan Strausborger replaced Hamilton in left field.

Worth noting:

• Chi Chi Gonzalez joined the Rangers on Wednesday and is set to start Thursday's game in place of Cole Hamels, who has a sore left groin.

• Derek Holland, on the disabled list with a strained muscle in his left shoulder, will make his next start with Triple-A Round Rock on Friday. The Rangers originally announced he would pitch at Frisco.

• Yovani Gallardo pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings on Monday. It's the sixth time he has not allowed a run in a start but he has just three wins in those six starts. The Rangers have lost two of them.
