Reddick closing in on return

A's outfielder set to start rehab assignment at Triple-A

June 18th, 2016

OAKLAND -- A's right fielder Josh Reddick is tentatively scheduled to begin a Minor League rehab assignment on Sunday, as he closes in on a return from the disabled list.
Reddick, who fractured his left thumb while sliding during a game on May 19, took batting practice with the A's on Friday and will do so again Saturday. Barring any setbacks, he'll join Triple-A Nashville the following day for a rehab stint that is expected to span close to 25 at-bats.
A's manager Bob Melvin said there are some off-days built into Reddick's rehab and his likely return will come during the club's four-game series in San Francisco that begins on June 27.
Reddick's return will be significant for an inconsistent offense that's undoubtedly been missing its No. 3 hitter. Reddick was batting .322 with a .860 OPS at the time of his injury.
Worth noting
• Left-hander Rich Hill (left groin strain) threw 10 pitches off the mound Friday and will throw again Sunday, Melvin said, while lefty Sean Manaea (forearm) played catch out to 90 feet with no issues.
