DETROIT -- Dallas Keuchel lasted just three innings in his return from the disabled list, but Josh Reddick's go-ahead three-run home run in the eighth inning kept Keuchel unbeaten and the Astros rolling, sending Houston to a 6-5 win over the Tigers on Friday night at Comerica Park.
"[Reddick] had the two sac flies and I told him, 'Go get another RBI,'" Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. "And he said, 'How about three?' So he had a good night."
Jordan Zimmermann's seven quality innings sent the Tigers into the eighth with a 5-3 lead before back-to-back singles from Derek Fisher and Jose Altuve off Bruce Rondon (1-2) brought the go-ahead run to the plate in Reddick. He sent a hanging slider deep to right for his 10th homer of the year and a season-high five RBIs.
"Obviously, his slider wasn't good tonight and he really didn't have his good fastball," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said, "and the results kind of played that out."

The comeback improved Houston to 38-13 on the road, on pace for the best road record in a season in Major League history. Reddick, meanwhile, became the 11th Astro this season with double-digit home runs, tying the Major League record shared by the 2015 Astros, 2004 Tigers and last year's Twins.
Keuchel, making his first start in nearly eight weeks after dealing with a nerve issue in his neck, took the mound on a pitch count but had to battle the Tigers' lineup from the outset. Keuchel struck out Victor Martinez to strand the bases loaded in a 32-pitch first inning, but he gave up Nicholas Castellanos' 15th home run of the season, a three-run shot, with two outs in the second. Brad Peacock (9-1) pitched effective relief, but Jose Cabrera hit his 13th homer of the year off him in the fifth.

"I felt really good, so that's a positive," said Keuchel, who finished with 79 pitches. "But just gotta commend them for laying off some pitches early. That was probably their game plan all along."

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Reddick rally: Two nights after Rondon cleared the benches by hitting the Royals' Mike Moustakas with a 99-mph fastball, Reddick made sure his slider was his downfall. The pitch had been a big reason for Rondon's success since his return from Triple-A Toledo, but he hung a few Friday, including Altuve's single and Reddick's 397-foot blast, per Statcast™, to right. Reddick, uncharacteristically, flipped his bat in excitement as the ball flew into the seats.
"It was a big swing to give us a lead late in the game," Reddick said. "You're pumped up, your teammates are pumped up. The way [Castellanos'] three-run homer was kind of pimped in the [second] wasn't really sitting with us too well. I felt like we had all the right to do it right back." More >

Mahtook hustles in a run: The Tigers took a two-run lead into the eighth inning thanks largely to the legs of Michael Mahtook, who decided to challenge the Astros by not settling for going first-to-third on Martinez's two-out single in the seventh. Third-base coach Dave Clark looked like he might stop him, but Mahtook kept going, catching right fielder Norichika Aoki off-guard as he threw to second base.
"I didn't know if the ball was going to get into the corner or not," Mahtook said. "So I came out running as hard as I can. Especially with the play behind you, you kind of let the third-base coach direct you. I was going hard into third, and he just kept waving me and I just kept going. They got a little careless, and we were able to take advantage of it."

WHAT'S NEXT
Astros:Collin McHugh will make his second start of the season since returning from an elbow injury as the Astros face the Tigers at 5:10 p.m. CT on Saturday. McHugh is 0-3 with a 6.86 ERA in his career against the Tigers.
Tigers:Matthew Boyd, whose wife gave birth to their first child on Thursday, will go back to work when he gets the start in a 6:10 p.m. ET game at Comerica Park. It'll be Boyd's first start at home since May 21. The left-hander has two quality starts on the road since his return from Toledo.
