Nicasio forced to exit with cracked fingernail

LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers right-hander Juan Nicasio left Wednesday night's 7-6 win over the D-backs with a cracked nail on the middle finger of his right hand. 

"We knew that he had torn a little bit of that nail, but they had been working on it and he said he felt good," manager Don Mattingly said. "The fastball was coming out fine, but he couldn't throw the breaking ball. You can't be out there without all your weapons. It's hard enough with all of them."

VP of medical services Stan Conte and Mattingly looked at Nicasio's middle finger on his right hand after he issued a walk to David Peralta with one out in the sixth inning.

Nicasio entered the game at the beginning of the inning with the Dodgers holding a 5-4 lead and faced three hitters, throwing 14 pitches.

Nicasio earned a start in the first game of a day-night doubleheader against Colorado on June 2 and only threw two innings. He said the nail cracked then and he has been dealing with the injury for the past week.

"The last three games it's bothered me a little bit," Nicasio said. "Hopefully once we go to San Diego [on Friday], I think it'll be OK."
