ARLINGTON -- Jurickson Profar batted in the No. 4 spot for the Rangers on Wednesday and did a pretty fair imitation of the ideal cleanup hitter.

Profar hit two home runs and added a two-run single to lead the Rangers to an 8-2 victory over the Athletics on Wednesday night. Profar set a career-high with five RBIs, and it was the first time Profar has hit multiple home runs in a game in his career.

He continues to make the most of his chance to be the Rangers' everyday shortstop while Elvis Andrus is on the disabled list with a fractured right elbow.

"It feels great for me," Profar said. "I can just come here for the first time [and] I don't have to check the lineup, I just know I'm playing. I just go there and do stuff to get better. Working on my swing, on defense, everything. This is the first time I get this chance, and it's feeling good."

Joey Gallo and Ronald Guzman also hit home runs for the Rangers, giving them nine in two games against the Athletics. That comes after they hit just three home runs in their seven-game road trip to Seattle and Anaheim. The Rangers have scored 15 runs in two games and Profar's two-RBI single in the seventh were the only runs that didn't come off the home run.

"I don't know," Profar said. "It's the same for me. But in the cleanup spot, sometimes you get a lot of guys on base, and I just try to be simple and try to drive those runs in."

Profar hit a two-run home run in the first inning, before Gallo followed with a blast of his own into the upper deck in right field against Oakland starter Daniel Mengden. It's the third time this season the Rangers have hit back-to-back home runs.

Profar's second home run came in the third inning to give the Rangers a 4-0 lead.

It also gave Profar home runs in three straight official at-bats. He hit a home run in the sixth inning on Tuesday and walked in his final appearance. The streak ended with a fifth-inning ground out.

"I guess we caught them at a bad time, being hot," Mengden said.

The only other time Profar batted cleanup this season was on May 22 against the Yankees when he hit a three-run home run. Three of his six home runs have come from the No. 4 spot in the Rangers lineup.

"I don't think he changes his swing," Rangers manager Jeff Banister said. "Look, he's one guy, I don't think he looks up and sees the 4 hole and thinks it's any different. He just goes out and plays the game of baseball and takes his swing."
