CHICAGO -- The Marlins anticipate adding a power bat for their weekend series against the Rockies on Friday at Coors Field.
First baseman Justin Bour, who has been on the disabled list since July 6 with a right ankle sprain, is hoping to be reinstated before the set. Manager Don Mattingly said the plan is for Bour to play in a rehab assignment game with Triple-A New Orleans on Wednesday night.
Barring any setbacks, Bour is expected to join the team on Thursday, a scheduled off-day for the Marlins, who are completing a stretch of playing on 20 consecutive days since the All-Star break.
Getting Bour back will add an impact middle-of-the-order left-handed power threat. The 28-year-old first baseman is batting .268 with 15 home runs and 46 RBIs this season.
Bour sustained the injury on July 2 at Atlanta. Before rolling his ankle, he had been on a hot stretch. In June, the first baseman posted a .317/.411/.651 line with six home runs and 20 RBIs.

With Bour out, the Marlins have mixed and matched at first base. Derek Dietrich has played mostly against right-handed starters and Chris Johnson has gotten the nod against lefties.
Bour went on a rehab assignment at New Orleans on Friday, and he played third base and had three at-bats on Tuesday before being replaced.
Bour is scheduled to play six innings for the Zephyrs on Wednesday, and then he should be ready to rejoin the team in Colorado.
