Hancock, Rondon lead San Antonio to big win

Right-hander Justin Hancock allowed two runs over eight innings and shortstop Jose Rondon drove in the winning run in his Double-A debut Tuesday night as host San Antonio (28-35) defeated the Texas League's hottest team, Corpus Christi (43-20).

Hancock, 24, who was selected to play in the Texas League All-Star Game on Monday, gave up eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts as he improved to 6-2 with a 3.05 ERA.

Hancock had struggled in his two previous starts, allowing 11 runs on 17 hits and four walks over 11 2/3 innings.

Right-handed reliever Tayron Guerrero, who is also a member of the South Division's All-Star team, allowed one hit with three strikeouts over two scoreless innings to pick up his fifth save and lower his ERA to 2.49.

Rondon was 1-for-3 with an RBI in his first game at Double-A. The 21-year-old Venezuelan was promoted from Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore on Monday after Missions' shortstop Trea Turner was traded to the Washington Nationals as the player to be named later in a prior deal.

Right fielder Yeison Asencio (.296) hit his fourth homer for the Missions.

In other news, right-handed closer Eric Yardley as named to the California League All-Star team that will play the Carolina League All-Stars next Tuesday at Rancho Cucamonga.

Yardley, 24, is 1-3 with a 3.53 ERA and 12 saves, the most by a closer in the Padres' Minor League system.

Triple-A El Paso (31-34): ALBUQUERQUE 3, Chihuahuas 2. LHP Robbie Erlin (5.27 ERA) allowed two unearned runs on four hits and three walks with eight strikeouts in six innings. LHP Chris Rearick (0-3, 6.27 ERA) allowed a run on three hits in an inning. LHP Eury De La Rosa (4.03 ERA) allowed two hits and a walk with a strikeout in a scoreless inning. 3B Brett Wallace (.300) hit his eighth homer and committed an error. 1B Tommy Medica (.250) was 2-for-2 with a walk and run.

Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore (27-38): Stockton 4, STORM 3. LHP Cory Luebke pitched his second scoreless inning with a strikeout in his continuing rehab from a second Tommy John surgery. RHP Ronald Herrera (4.01 ERA) allowed three hits with three strikeouts over seven innings. LHP Chris Nunn (7.71 ERA) allowed three runs on three walks and a hit batter without retiring a hitter in the ninth. Yardley took the loss, allowing a run on a hit in an inning. 2B Fernando Perez (.248), from Otay Ranch High, was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Class A Fort Wayne (28-35): WEST MICHIGAN 7, TinCaps 1. Fort Wayne committed five errors, leading to five unearned runs. RHP Dinelson Lamet (2-4, 4.30 ERA) allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk with nine strikeouts in five innings. RHP Bryan Verbitsky (2.77 ERA) allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk in an inning. RHP T.J. Weir (5.12 ERA) allowed an unearned run on a hit with two strikeouts in two innings.

Dominican Summer League Padres (9-6): PADRES 5, White Sox 2. LHP Eduardo Solano (1.50 ERA) allowed a run on a hit with three walks and two strikeouts in four innings. RHP Starlin Cordero (1-0, 12.00 ERA) allowed an unearned run on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts in two innings to get the win. RHP Erick De Los Santos (2.70 ERA) had a strikeout in two perfect innings. LF Carlos Taveras (.119) was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two walks. RF Jaffe Garcia (.296) hit his first homer.
