Dodgers activate Turner, place Utley on DL

Third baseman returns with a bang, with a 2-run HR and 3 runs scored

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers made another tough roster decision on Thursday, placing veteran infielder on the 10-day disabled list in a move that frees a roster spot for the returning .
Turner was activated from the 10-day DL after missing 10 games with a strained right groin. He started at third base and batted third in the series finale against the Brewers.
"We're happy to have Justin back doing his progressions and feeling good," manager Dave Roberts said. "Obviously, it adds length to our lineup. To get him in the flow of things and get him some traction is a good thing."
Turner fit right back into the flow, belting a two-run HR to center field in the Dodgers' 21-5 rout of the Brewers.
"It definitely felt good to drive a ball to the middle of the field," Turner said. "It felt good in the box all night. I felt like I saw the ball good and the timing was good. So that was nice."

Utley, 39, is dealing with inflammation in his left wrist, though Roberts doesn't think the injury is serious.
"It is going to be a short-term thing," Roberts said.
The Dodgers announced the moves less than an hour before the finale's first pitch. Because the Dodgers have such a deep roster, the front office had a difficult decision to make in order to clear the spot for Turner.
Another move is expected on Friday, because recently acquired reliever is scheduled to join the active roster, per Roberts. Axford was acquired from the Blue Jays at the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline.
Worth noting
• Left-handers and began Minor League rehab assignments on Thursday with Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga. Ryu (strained left groin) started and pitched four scoreless innings, striking out four and allowing two hits. Rosscup (inflammation in left middle finger) struck out one in a perfect inning of relief.
