Turner exits after fouling pitch off knee

LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner left Monday's game against Arizona in the top of the fourth inning with a left-knee contusion.

Turner fouled a pitch off his left kneecap in the bottom of the third, causing him to drop to the ground. After evaluation from manager Don Mattingly and VP of medical services Stan Conte, Turner remained in the game and eventually flied out. He jogged gingerly to first base on the fly ball, and was slow getting back to the dugout once the ball was caught.

"It felt the worst when I fouled it off my knee and I walked around a bit, but it got tighter as the game went on," Turner said. "I iced it three times, and I'll take the ice machine home and ice it tonight and see how I feel in the morning. From here it's day-to-day. I can walk around fine now, but it's a little tougher going up and down stairs."

Turner came out for the top of the fourth and dove on a grounder to lead off the inning. Two batters later, during a mound visit, he was replaced by Alberto Callaspo at third base.

"I think he makes that call. He knows if it's sore and if it's going to get worse," Mattingly said on Turner staying in the game. "I'm hoping just a bruise and we'll just find out how bad and what the swelling is like tomorrow."
