Royals Minor League Report: July 3

Omaha Storm Chasers (43-39)

Omaha 4, New Orleans 8

Omaha dropped the series finale in front of a sellout crowd on Friday night. Until last night, the Storm Chasers have only allowed eight or more runs in a game once since the start of June. Whit Merrifield was one of four Storm Chasers with multiple hits in the game, and is one of seven platers with 85 or more hits in the Pacific Coast League. Moises Sierra tried to fuel a comeback with a late two-run homer in the ninth, but was unable to as Omaha finished with a 8-4 loss.

NW Arkansas Naturals (43-35)

Northwest Arkansas 6, Frisco 9
LP: Malcom Culver (2-3)
HR: Hunter Dozier (7)

The Naturals got off to a 4-0 lead in the third with the the help of two-run single by Raul Mondesi and a two-run double by Hunter Dozier. Christian Binford put in 6.0 solid innings of work, allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts, but did not factor into the decision as he left the game with a 4-2 lead. Frisco scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 9-4 lead. Hunter Dozier tried to spark a comeback with a two-run blast in the ninth, but the Naturals fell 6-9.

Wilmington Blue Rocks (44-34)

Wilmington 9, Lynchburg 6
WP: Matt Alvarez (2-2)
HR: Mauricio Ramos (5)

Wilmington put together eight runs in the eighth to erase a 6-1 deficit heading into the inning. The Blue Rocks loaded the bases with nobody out for Ramon Torres to hit a single cutting the lead from 6-2. Mauricio Ramos then cleared the bases with a three-RBI double, putting the Rocks within a run. Lynchburg committed a throwing error that allowed the go-ahead runs to score, capping the game off at 9-6.

Lexington Legends (36-41)

Rome 2, Lexington 4
WP: Yunior Marte (3-0)
HR: None

Yunior Marte allowed one unearned run in 4.1 IP of relief, recording the win for the Legends. Lexington scored two in the first and capped the game off in the ninth inning with the help of an RBI double by Michael Hill.

Idaho Falls Chukars (5-11)

Idaho Falls 10, Ogden 14
LP: Carlos Herrera (1-2)
HR: None

The Chukars dropped the finale of a four-game series, being outslugged by the Raptors 14-10. Joshua Banuelos went 4-for-4 for Idaho falls, with three RBI and reached base in each of his six plate appearances. He is now leading the team with a .404 batting average this year.

Burlington Royals (7-4)

Burlington 7, Kingsport 4
WP: Cole Way (1-0)
SV: Jacob Bodner (1)
HR: None

The Royals trailed 4-0 entering the sixth, but strung together seven runs to comeback and beat the Mets. Burlington has now won their sixth straight game, which is the most since they won ten in a row in 2012.

Surprise Royals (9-2)

Suprise 7, AZL Padres 3
WP: Arnaldo Hernandez (2-1)
SV: Carter Hope (1)
HR: None

Surprise outscored the Padres with the help of a four-run second inning. Arnaldo Hernandez threw a solid 5.0 innings, allowing two runs and striking out nine.
