Lough nursing sore wrist after being hit by pitch

ARLINGTON -- Outfielder David Lough was not in the Royals' lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Rangers after being hit with a pitch in the wrist during Saturday's 4-1 win in 10 innings.

The bases were loaded with two out in a 1-1 game, when Lough stepped to the plate in the 10th inning. Robbie Ross, who had pitched 19 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings entering the game, hit Lough with a 2-1 fastball, allowing the go-ahead run to score. George Kottaras provided a couple of insurance runs by following that up with a two-run double off the right-field wall.

"It's still sore," Lough said. "I'm glad that George was able to get a hit after me, but it's one of those things, late innings and we're trying to get a run. He just threw a fastball in and it hit me right in the wrist. I had to wear it."

Lough did not rule out the possibility that he could pinch-hit or pinch-run, although he did not start on Sunday. He is hitting .289 with four RBIs and four runs scored in 12 games this season.

"He won't start the game, but I'm not saying he will get the day off," manager Ned Yost said. "He's a little sore, but he's going to be fine. It hit him in a good spot. Everything went dead and hurt real bad. But five minutes afterwards, it felt a lot better."
