Getz feeling good despite sprained left knee
Royals second baseman exits in fifth inning during Saturday's win
KANSAS CITY -- Royals second baseman Chris Getz, playing for just the second time since being recalled from Triple-A Omaha, left Saturday night's 6-5 win over the Tigers with a knee injury in the fifth inning.
The club announced that Getz sustained a mild medial sprain of the left knee, but initial indications were that the injury would not put him on the disabled list.
"I feel pretty good," Getz said, watching a TV replay of the incident. "It tested out pretty good so far. There's a little bit of soreness but, for the most part, I'm in a good place. I feel good about it."
Getz twisted the knee as he tried to catch a sharply hit ball by the Tigers' Prince Fielder. Getz sprawled on the outfield grass in pain while trainers tended to him. After a few minutes, he was helped up and was able to walk slowly off the field.
"It was an awkward play and I was in an awkward position. And, mentally, you kind of go into shock -- what just happened there?" Getz said.
The ball went past Getz for a one-out single which led to a two-run inning for the Tigers.
Getz was replaced by Elliot Johnson.
