HOUSTON -- Considering the success the Astros had a year ago, they didn't have many holes to fill in the offseason, and two of those needs were addressed by re-signing outfielder Colby Rasmus (he accepted a qualifying offer) and left-hander Tony Sipp.
The Astros filled their biggest offseason need by trading for closer Ken Giles of the Phillies, and last month they reached a one-year deal with veteran right-hander Doug Fister to bolster the rotation. Giles and Fister figure to be the two newcomers to play the biggest roles on the club in 2016. Part II of the Astros' Spring Training preview takes a look at the new faces in camp:

Giles: Acquired in the December trade with the Phillies in which the Astros sent former No. 1 pick Mark Appel and promising right-hander Vincent Velasquez, among others, to Philly, Giles brings 100-mph heat to the bullpen. He posted a 1.80 ERA in 2015, with 15 saves in 17 opportunities as the Phillies' closer in the second half of the season.
Fister: Fister signed a one-year deal with the Astros in January to bolster the rotation. He spent the previous two seasons with the Nationals, going 5-7 with a 4.19 ERA in 25 games (15 starts) last year while battling arm issues. He went 16-6 with a 2.41 ERA for the Nats in 2014.

RHP Danny Reynolds: Claimed off waivers in late December from the Dodgers, the hard-throwing Reynolds threw 43 1/3 innings in 43 games last year while striking out 50 at Double-A Arkansas, an Angels affiliate. He spent his first six seasons in the Angels' system before being claimed by the Dodgers on Dec. 7.
LHP Wandy Rodriguez (non-roster): Rodriguez, who made 218 starts with Houston from 2005-12, returns on a Minor League deal. He made 17 appearances for the Rangers last season, including 15 starts, going 6-4 with a 4.90 ERA. Rodriguez is a longshot to make the club, but he gives the Astros some insurance if there's a hole in the rotation.

LHP Edwar Cabrera (non-roster): Cabrera spent the 2015 season in the Rangers organization, posting a 5-2 record with a save and a 3.91 ERA in 33 games (seven starts) with Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock. He spent most of his season at Frisco, where he went 4-2 with a 3.68 ERA in 27 games (seven starts). Cabrera could compete for the second lefty job in the bullpen.
IF Danny Worth (non-roster): Worth, 30, played his entire 2015 season with Triple-A Reno in the D-backs' system, and he hit .314 with 30 doubles, six homers and 47 RBIs in 106 games. He started 84 games at shortstop, but also appeared in games at second base and third. Worth has played in 135 games in his Major League career, all with Detroit (2010-14), after being selected by the Tigers in the second round of the 2007 Draft.
