Q&A with Yankees broadcaster Singleton

April 2nd, 2016

Having closely tracked the fifth-starter battle between CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova this spring, former Major League outfielder Ken Singleton said he was glad the decision wasn't his to make.
Singleton, now an analyst with the YES Network, recently joined MLB.com for a video interview, touching on a variety of topics surrounding the club. He said there was no easy choice between Nova and Sabathia, given their inexperience out of the bullpen.
"The fact is, they don't have 15 minutes to warm up in the bullpen to come in for an appearance," Singleton said. "Now you have to be ready within 12-to-15 pitches to come in. They've never done that. So it would be something totally new for both of them to do it. It's a tough decision. I'm glad I don't have to make it."
The Yanks ultimately went with Sabathia in the rotation.
