Kentucky infielder Riddle taken in 13th round

The Marlins made J.T. Riddle of Kentucky its 13th-round selection, taking the second baseman with the 382nd overall pick of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Riddle was taken in the 35th round of the 2010 Draft out of the Kentucky high school ranks by the Red Sox, but opted to attend his home state school.

He was named Kentucky's "Mr. Baseball" as a high school senior.

Three years later, he could be ready for the pro game as a solid middle infielder.

Riddle is a hot commodity -- a left-handed hitting middle infielder -- but the question remains just how much he'll hit after hitting .283 in his three years at Kentucky.

He does have a compact swing and if he can add some strength, there might be a little power coming.

He showed off his ability to make good contact and put the ball in play as a junior, striking out only 14 times in 245 plate appearances.

He runs well enough, but isn't a real threat to steal. Riddle plays second base now, but could handle shortstop at the next level and he could be looking at a future as a utility player.
