ST PETERSBURG -- In the top of the fourth of the Rays' 1-0 loss to the White Sox on Friday night, Tampa Bay center fielder Kevin Kiermaier and second baseman Logan Forsythe were involved in an ugly head-to-head collision tracking a fly ball in shallow right field. Forsythe hung on to make a great catch to end the inning and save a run, but both Rays would leave the game.
The Rays announced that Forsythe suffered a bruised lower left leg and bruised left hip while Kiermaier was diagnosed with a head contusion. Cash said both players would be evaluated at the ballpark on Saturday.
Right fielder Brandon Guyer moved to center to replace Kiermaier, and Corey Dickerson entered the game to take Guyer's spot. Shortstop Tim Beckham replaced Forysthe at second base and Brad Miller entered the game to play shortstop. Kiermaier had entered the series hoping to pick things up offensively as he left the game hitless in his last 20 plate appearances.
"I'm OK, I ran into Logan pretty good there," Kiermaier said after the game. "But overall I think it could have been a lot worse. I feel all right."
Kiermaier factored heavily into the Rays' promotional plans for this weekend's series with the White Sox, with Saturday designated Kiermaier Bobblehead Night and Sunday Kiermaier Glove Day.
