Key things to watch for in today's games

Action continues Sunday around Major League Baseball with many playoff hopes still alive.

Here are a few games to watch:

Arrieta takes the hill: CHC @ LAD, 8:05 p.m. ET
Zack Greinke of the Dodgers has been the National League Cy Young Award favorite for quite some time, but Chicago's Jake Arrieta is certainly making a case for himself. The Cubs right-hander has been dominant all season, but has been downright filthy in August; Arrieta is 5-0 with an 0.54 ERA and .160 average against in five starts. He's also allowed just two earned runs in 33 1/3 innings while striking out 31. Alex Wood, who came over from the Braves at the non-waiver Trade Deadline, starts for the Dodgers.

Wild Card hopefuls battle: BAL @ TEX, 3:05 p.m.
The Orioles and Rangers are in the thick of the American League Wild Card race, with the Rangers thriving and the O's just a few games back. Derek Holland will be a key component for the Rangers in the race. He's making his third start since coming off the disabled list, giving up four runs in six innings his last time out. Miguel Gonzalez (9-10, 4.78 ERA) starts for Baltimore.

Series concludes in San Francisco: STL @ SF, 4:05 p.m.
Jaime Garcia has been injury prone for most of his career, but the Cardinals left-hander has proven to be among the game's most impressive pitchers when healthy. Garcia is healthy right now and has been on a roll since coming off the DL, going 3-1 with a 1.86 ERA in his last six starts. Chris Heston returns to the Giants and starts in place of Matt Cain, who was placed on the DL.
