OAKLAND -- Khris Davis will be back in the A's lineup Thursday.

At least that's the plan. Oakland's slugger has swiftly moved through his rehab from a right groin strain with ease and is expected to be activated from the disabled list when eligible ahead of the club's series finale against the Rays.

"He's chomping at the bit," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "I think yesterday with the running that they had him do, he felt comfortable. So he'll go through everything today, run the bases tomorrow.

"If all goes well running the bases, then he'll be in the lineup on Thursday, and I expect that to be the case."

Melvin's A's are experiencing an offensively challenged stretch without Davis, who leads the team with 13 homers. His 38 RBIs are tied with second baseman Jed Lowrie for tops.

Entering Tuesday, the Khris Davis-less A's had managed just 12 runs across seven games.

Worth noting
• Right-hander Frankie Montas, who twirled six innings of one-run ball against the D-backs in his season debut Sunday, will remain in the rotation and go Friday in Kansas City.

• Righty Paul Blackburn (forearm strain) will make a rehab start with Class-A Advanced Stockton on Thursday.

• Reliever Ryan Buchter will throw his first bullpen session Thursday since landing on the DL on April 26 with a left shoulder strain, while bullpenmate Liam Hendriks (hip/groin) will head to Nashville on Wednesday for a rehab stint with the Triple-A club.

Jane Lee has covered the A's for MLB.com since 2010.
