Hernandez's hamstring tightens in LA loss

LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers infielder Kiké Hernandez said his left hamstring tightened as he tried to leg out a grounder to end the bottom of the eighth inning of Sunday night's 2-0 loss to the Cubs and no-hitter pitcher Jake Arrieta.

Hernandez said he had never had a hamstring injury and wouldn't guess the severity of this one. He said he felt the tightness as he went through the first-base bag.

"I'll wake up tomorrow and see how it feels and go from there," Hernandez said.

Hernandez's grounder up the middle was fielded by shortstop Addison Russell, who fired to first, just beating Hernandez. Vice president of medical services Stan Conte walked Hernandez back to the dugout and down to the trainer's room.

Hernandez said he was removed for "precautionary" reasons and suggested he was coming out of the game in a double-switch anyway. He was making his first start of the season at third base and was replaced by Justin Turner.

Hernandez is the third current Dodger suffering from a hamstring injury. Second baseman Howie Kendrick suffered a strained left hamstring on Aug. 9, and Yasiel Puig aggravated a strained right hamstring on Thursday. Both are on the 15-day disabled list.

The Giants series starts Monday and rosters expand on Tuesday.
