Kingsport blanked by Greeneville in pitcher's duel

June 11th, 2021

The Kingsport Axmen fell, 1-0, to the Greeneville Flyboys in a duel at Pioneer Park on Thursday night.

Both starters spun gems, as Connor Harris for Greeneville (4-3) threw five shutout innings with four strikeouts. Peyton Carson for Kingsport (3-4) halved his ERA on the season with three one-hit innings, striking out three with no walks and no runs allowed.

The offense began for the Flyboys in the fifth inning, as Chris Williams singled and later scored on a Jake Dacunto single. There wasn’t much else, as Kingsport was robbed of a would-be RBI double on a diving catch in center field by Homer Bush Jr., who turned it into a double play.

Kingsport’s arms flourished again, without allowing an earned run and compiling a 1.04 ERA through three games on the road trip.

The Flyboys bullpen had been shaky all season but was locked in against the Axmen hitters. Austin Troesser tossed two hitless frames, followed by Cal Lambert who shut it down for the six-out save.

Kingsport rematches with Greeneville Friday at 7 p.m., before heading to Bristol for a weekend set. Fans can hear all Axmen games by going to this website.
