DANVILLE, VA — Blake Sodersten shined in his first start for the Kingsport Axmen but the Danville Otterbots rallied in the middle innings to win, 4-1, Friday evening at American Legion Field.

Sodersten, who was making his third Appalachian League appearance, tossed 3 2/3 innings of no-hit ball. The Cal State Northridge right-hander struck out a season-best six and allowed only one walk.

Reliever Tyler Clayton picked up where Sodersten left off, retiring four of the five batters he faced. Clayton’s blemish was a hit by pitch before recording two punch outs in his outing.

With Kingsport (12-17) in front, 1-0, heading into the sixth, the game flipped on its side.

After being held hitless, Danville (14-15) pushed across three runs to grab the lead. The Otterbots tacked on an insurance tally in the seventh, securing a series victory.

Kingsport scored its lone run in the second frame. Nick Barnes tripled to right field before first baseman MJ Rodriguez followed with a sacrifice fly.

Up next, the Axmen continue their road trip with a visit to the Tar Heel State. Kingsport faces the Burlington Sock Puppets for a two-game set. The first game of the series begins at 7 p.m. Saturday. All Kingsport Axmen games are broadcast here with a video stream available online for home games.
