Wong (left side discomfort) scratched

September 16th, 2020

Cardinals second baseman  was a late scratch for Tuesday’s game against the Brewers after experiencing discomfort on his left side, the club announced. He is being evaluated and is listed as day to day.

Tommy Edman was shifted to second base and took over in the leadoff spot for Wong, while Matt Carpenter slid to third base as the Cardinals adjusted their lineup shortly before first pitch.

Wong is hitting .265/.357/.309 this season, serving as the club's everyday leadoff man. He’s continued his Gold Glove-caliber play at second base, including Monday’s slick defensive play in the first game of the doubleheader when he made a play up the middle then flipped the ball to shortstop Paul DeJong to start a double play.
