Schwarber leads display of power vs. A's

MESA, Ariz. -- The A's and Cubs combined for 30 hits and 26 runs, but in the end, it was the Cubs that walked off the field with the 15-11 victory in front of 15,448 at Sloan Field in the final Cactus League game for both teams.
With the victory, the Cubs finished with a 12-17-5 record while the A's finished 16-15.
"We were a little spotty here at the end, but I think everybody is ready to go," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "It's good to see us come back and see some young guys in a big crowd like that, so it was a good opportunity to get a good look."
Trailing 7-2 after three innings, and Matt McBride hit back-to-back homers as part of an eight-run fourth inning to put the A's ahead, 10-7. 's two-run home run, his second homer of the day, in the bottom of the fourth, cut Oakland's lead to 10-9.
Cubs' Duensing heads to 10-day DL
was scheduled to start for the A's, but was not feeling well and pitched in a Minor League game instead. His replacement, , was charged with five first-inning runs and lasted only six batters before he was replaced by Kyle Finnegan.
The only two hits allowed by Casilla were a solo home run to Schwarber and a grand slam by Albert Almora Jr. that put the A's in a 5-0 hole.
"[Casilla] had to start the game and there are a lot of things that can get a reliever out of sorts," Melvin said. "I thought he had the first guy struck out. Guys like that will turn it up a little bit so I'm not too worried about that."
A's Cotton could vie for AL Rookie of the Year
The ball was flying out of Sloan Park on Wednesday. A's shortstop hit a two-run home run off Cubs starter in the top of third inning to cut the Cubs' lead to 6-2. But the Cubs answered with a solo home run from in the bottom of the frame to push the lead back to five runs.
The teams combined to hit seven home runs during the game.
Lackey was charged with seven runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked one batter.

"I felt like I was ready a week ago," Lackey said. "Today was just kind of throwing some pitches and getting out of here healthy. Honestly, just trying to get the pitch count up, just trying to be healthy when we start the season. I feel fine."
A's up next: The A's return to the Bay Area for a three-game exhibition series against the Giants, the first two of which will be played at AT&T Park. Thursday's game begins at 7:15 p.m. PT. It will be broadcast live on MLB.TV, and features , the A's No. 2 starter, against .
Cubs up next: The Cubs head to Houston for a pair of exhibition games on Thursday and Friday against the Astros at Minute Maid Park. Thursday's game is at 7:10 p.m. CT and broadcast live on MLB.TV. is expected to return to the lineup after a seven-day hiatus with lower back stiffness. , who won the No. 5 rotation spot, is slated to make his fourth start of the spring.
