Lake County INF Joseph Sever earns Player of the Week honors

The Cleveland Indians today announced that Single-A Lake County INF JOSEPH SEVER has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for May 29-June 4. The Indians Player of the Week Award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and is announced each Tuesday.

Sever, 22, hit .438 (7-16) with one double, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored through 5 games between Single-A Advanced Carolina and Single-A Lake County. He recorded 3 multi-hit games throughout the week, including a 3-hit performance on May 29 vs. Wilmington in his last game with the Mudcats. Sever has split the season between the two clubs, batting .271 (23-85) through 25 games with Lake County and .316 (24-76) in 21 contests with Carolina. The right-handed hitting and throwing infielder has combined to appear in 17 games at second base, 12 at first base and 8 at third base.

The San Jose (CA) native, and nephew of NFL Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, was originally drafted by the Indians in the 21st round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. Sever was named to the 2012 New York-Penn League All-Star team in his debut season.
