Lake County LHP Ryan Merritt Wins Player of the Week Honors

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced Single-A Lake County LHP RYAN MERRITT has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for May 6-13.

Merritt, 21, went 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA (3 ER/12.0 IP) in 2 starts during the week, including 7.0 shutout innings on just 2 hits on May 6 at Burlington (ND, 7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 SO). On the season, Merritt is 1-3 with a 3.50 ERA (14 ER/36.0 IP) through 7 starts. Opponents are hitting .270 (38-141) off him, which includes a .240 (12-50) mark by left-handed hitters.

The 6-0, 165 lb. lefty was originally selected by the Indians in the 16th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft. The McKinney, TX native started 14 games last season for Mahoning Valley, going 3-4 with a 4.09 ERA (30 ER/66.0 IP) with 40 strikeouts as opposed to just 17 walks.
