The D-backs will honor the late Joe Garagiola in a ceremony on May 16 before the team's 6:40 p.m. MT game against the Yankees at Chase Field.
Garagiola, a Hall of Famer and former big league catcher and broadcaster, died March 23. He was 90.
"Joe is a legend in every sense of the word, and we know that many fans in Arizona have wanted to pay tribute to him," D-backs president and CEO Derrick Hall said. "There's no better time than with a huge crowd and the national spotlight that comes with playing the Yankees at home for the first time since 2010, on the 15th anniversary of the 2001 World Series. We expect to share a lot of laughs and tears that night as we remember what an amazing person Joe was and the impact he left on this community."
The pregame ceremony will include Garagiola's family and friends, as well as some of baseball's most well-known personalities. A permanent emblem also will be unveiled at Chase Field in Garagiola's memory, and the "JOE" patch worn on the D-backs' uniforms will be available for purchase, with the proceeds benefiting St. Peter Indian Mission.
FOX Sports Arizona also will take part in the tribute with a special edition of "D-backs Live" with on-air guests. The game broadcast will also be used to help raise funds for St. Peter Indian Mission.
Additional details will be announced in the week leading up to the ceremony.
