ATLANTA -- Though the Braves do not yet have a clear-cut All-Star candidate, Nick Markakis has started to show signs he could spend the remainder of this month enhancing his candidacy.
Markakis and Freddie Freeman stand as Atlanta's most likely position players to serve as the club's representative at this year's All-Star Game presented by MasterCard. But like each of their other Braves teammates, neither was listed among the leaders at their respective positions when the National League's second Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot voting update was released on Wednesday.
After notching a Major League-high 11 doubles in April, Markakis struggled throughout most of May. But the two-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner entered Wednesday having hit .300 with three doubles and a .693 OPS over his past 11 games.
